Feet First — emerging artists program from Legs on the Wall

After a fantastic inaugural program in 2007, Legs on the Wall are delighted to announce the second season of feet first - our emerging artists program for physical theatre artists. Four successful applicants (individuals or groups) will be selected to participate in a six-week creative development at the Red Box in Lilyfield,Sydney. This includes:

  • - 20 hours training and development/rehearsal time in the Red Box
  • - A production grant of $500
  • - Mentoring with Artistic Director Debra Batton and Artistic Associate Simone O,Brien
  • - Consultation with a Lighting Designer and basic lighting for the showings
  • - Project Management skills development with Legs on the Wall management
     

The program will run from Monday 14 April to Friday 23 May 2008 and will conclude with two public showings. Successful applicants will be those who demonstrate the ability to fulfil the guidelines of the feet first program including interest in and commitment to physical theatre.

PlayMoves - Movement Workshop for Performance

This workshop will focus on playfulness, presence and complicity. It is based on the work of Monika Pagneux, a renowned European movement teacher and former Lecoq teacher, whose theme is the physical, vocal and personal freedom of the performer. It includes combining the Feldenkrais Method’s “Awareness through Movement” with ensemble exercises and games in innovative ways to assist the performer expand their creative possibilities, playfulness, pleasure, complicity and ensemble skills. This workshop is for performers, directors, drama teachers & students, and anyone interested in playing with movement.

Anna is a performer, movement teacher and director who trained with Monika Pagneux in Europe and Australia, including being invited to Pagneux’s only Pedagogy Courses in recent years - Paris 1994 and Barcelona 2007. Inspired by Pagneux, Anna trained as a Feldenkrais Method® Practitioner, graduating in 2000. Anna has a great desire to share Pagneux’s work and in doing so, deepen her own investigation of how we as performers / creators can be more awake and present in every moment, ready to play. A highlight of Anna’s work is her acclaimed one-woman show ‘Chinese Take Away’ and its film adaptation, which has taken her to festivals in Asia, Europe and USA. She has performed with Rock’n’Roll Circus, Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Co, La Boite, QTC and others. Anna studied with Pagneux, Philippe Gaulier, Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe and Shanghai Circus School. Anna received a Churchill Fellowship in 2002 for further studies at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre Summer School, California. Anna loves to teach movement and direct / create new work, which she has done for many companies, universities and festivals. She won Best Actor (Female) at the Qld Short Film Festival 2006 for ‘Karaoke King’. Anna invites you to PlayMoves.
